“Is it illegal to look in your neighbor’s mailbox?”

The things you find yourself doing during the Dragon Con panic.

I’d been waiting on this package for a week… shipping had taken 3 days longer than I expected so I was already frustrated. I knew it was scheduled to be delivered Saturday so I checked the mailbox multiple times and nothing. It was well past the time our mail usually comes so I checked the tracking again and… it said delivered.

But no mail! Cue minor heart attack.

So I yelled into the house to Chase to find out if it was considered illegal to dig through your neighbor’s mailboxes. He didn’t know. I went and looked anyway. Neighbor on the left? No mail. Neighbor on the right? The entire mailbox was ours – 4 letters and my package!

So thanks for the added stress, USPS. At least I found it and hopefully the neighbors didn’t see the weird girl from next door digging in their mailbox. (Though I have to wonder if the next neighbor over had THEIR mail? Haha.)

So anyway, let’s see, what have I gotten done since then?

Friday I got home to my awaited fabric. I quickly threw it in some dyed, set it outside to dry and went back in to keep making trim. I had wanted to do a thin, gathered strip of this rose print satin I’d gotten, but it was just shredding everywhere, even after cutting it with pinking shears, and ain’t nobody got time for that. So I switched over to the pink/white print cotton I used for the new corset. MUCH better. The trim went together fast, I got the two pieces sewn together and by Saturday morning I’d gotten them sewn in place. (Not that I stayed up overnight. Just got up and finished it Sat morning!)

Saturday afternoon I got the newly dyed fabric cut into strips, pleated, and attached to the hem of the underskirt. It’s finally starting to look like something.

After that picture, I made some more of the taffeta trim and got that pinned onto the underskirt seam. Didn’t think to take any pics of that.

Sunday I got up and decided I wanted to make a cowl for my Leia cape, so I did that with my leftover fabric. It’s not great but it makes the cape look much more dramatic. I tried everything for Leia on, I look like a chunk in it but oh well. I think I should probably add a strap for the gun belt so it doesn’t fall as I walk around… note to self.

Back to the pink dress, I tackled the shoes next… but I’m going to make that its own post.

So all that is left so far is the wig (GAH let’s see how fast I can ventilate a lace front), making some trim for the stomacher, attaching the roses, sewing the pick-ups in place, make a quick belt piece, decide if I want the shawl, going over the whole thing with tweezers for loose threads, and I need to sew the skirt to the lining at the top edges so I can easily get into my pockets. On the corset, I need to put the edging on and get a some grommets. Oh and slap together a necklace.

I think outside of the pink beast the only other thing left is altering the headband for my Donna costume. Let’s do this. I can finish this. Maybe I can be done by Saturday night and start packing Sunday (finally?????????? I haven’t even started except for setting everything that’s finished in our bathroom :\)
